Psychodynamic psychotherapy: Costs

People with Statutory Health Insurance

If you see a therapist with a statutory health insurance license, you will not incur any out-of-pocket costs. The prerequisite is a mental illness of clinical significance. Payment is made for as many sessions as are authorized within the approved short-term or long-term therapy.

If No Therapy Spot Is Available

If you are unable to find a spot within a reasonable amount of time, the reimbursement procedure under Section 13(3) of SGB V may apply: the health insurance provider will then cover the treatment with a therapist without a statutory health insurance license. The application must be submitted and justified before treatment begins. Health insurance providers handle this differently.

Privately Insured Individuals and Self-Pay Patients

Privately insured people should clarify the scope and terms with their insurer in advance, as policies vary significantly.

Self-pay patients are billed according to the fee schedule. For a single session of at least 50 minutes (code 861), the basic rate is currently approximately 40 euros, the standard rate is 92.50 euros, and the maximum rate is up to 140.76 euros. Fees are not freely negotiable. Any agreement that deviates from the fee schedule must be made in writing before treatment begins.

My own service is psychological counseling via video, which you pay for yourself. This is not psychotherapy and is not intended to diagnose or treat an illness, which is why the health insurance provider does not cover it. My way of working is shaped by a depth psychological understanding.
