Initial Consultation
50 minutes
We’ll focus on what’s on your mind right now and discuss what might help you move forward.
The statutory health insurer does not cover psychological counseling unrelated to illness. The Psychotherapy Guidelines draw the line for statutory health insurance (GKV) at the connection to illness: what is paid for is what is meant to diagnose, cure, or alleviate an illness. Psychotherapy is expressly excluded if “it serves solely the purpose of parenting, marriage, life, and sexual counseling, as well as couples and family counseling.”
There is another side to this distinction. Since no insurer is involved, no report or diagnosis goes to it either; only you and the counselor are involved; in the case of a licensed practitioner, the legal duty of confidentiality applies. There is still documentation of the conversations, as in every practice. And if a disability insurance provider later asks about treatments and counseling, the wording of that question determines what is to be disclosed.
Anyone who needs treatment gets the insurer involved mainly in two ways: through a therapy spot in a practice or, if the insurer does not make a necessary treatment possible in time, through the reimbursement procedure with its own requirements. Anyone seeking clarity unrelated to illness pays out of pocket, and I offer counseling as a self-pay service for exactly that.

The packages consist only of 50-minute sessions. The initial consultation is booked and billed separately. If this arrangement doesn’t work out for you, I’ll refund you the amount for the remaining package sessions.
The initial consultation is a 50- or 90-minute counseling session for which a fee is charged. We’ll get to know each other and begin working on your concerns right away. Afterward, you can decide whether you’d like to schedule additional sessions.
You can leave it at a single session or book additional appointments individually. A package is another option if you’ve decided to have multiple sessions.
You don’t need to write anything out in detail. If you’d like, you can jot down what’s on your mind and what you hope to get out of the session. For the video call, you’ll need a quiet place, a stable internet connection, and a camera and microphone.
Before your first paid session, you will receive information regarding services, fees, payment, canceling appointments, and confidentiality. The agreement also explains how personal data is handled and how the relationship is terminated.
This counseling service is available to self-pay clients. I do not bill health insurance for this service.
